Pet Travel Checklist for Australian Owners

Use this checklist as a planning prompt and adapt it to your pet, destination, transport method and current conditions. Confirm accommodation, park, carrier and local requirements before leaving.

Before the trip

  • Confirm identification and owner contact details are current.
  • Check the route, planned breaks and pet-friendly destinations.
  • Review the weather and avoid leaving an animal unattended in a vehicle.
  • Trial new travel equipment before departure.
  • Keep important contact and booking details available offline.

Water and feeding

  • Fresh water and a clean travel bowl.
  • Usual food in suitable storage.
  • Feeding mat, scoop and sealable waste bags.
  • Any required items used under professional or label directions.

Comfort and clean-up

  • Washable seat or cargo protector that fits the vehicle.
  • Familiar blanket or bedding appropriate for the conditions.
  • Absorbent towels and reusable hair-removal tool.
  • Waste-bag dispenser and spare bags.
  • Separate bags for clean and used items.

At every stop

Check water, comfort, equipment fit and the area around the pet. Account for changing temperatures and surfaces. Secure loose equipment before driving again and leave stops clean for the next traveller.

Pack the smallest reliable kit that covers the journey. A clearly organised bag is more useful than a large collection of items that cannot be found when needed.

Compare collapsible double travel bowl, pet drying towel, pet road-trip essentials guide. Check product details and measurements before choosing.
