Pet hair in a car is easier to manage when you separate the job into loosening, collecting and finishing. Start with the seats completely dry. Hair clings more strongly when fabric is damp, and rubbing a wet surface can push it deeper into the weave.
1. Loosen the trapped hair
Remove booster seats, blankets and loose mats. Use a reusable rubber or silicone hair tool with short strokes in one direction. Work from the top of the seat towards the floor so you do not clean the same area twice. On delicate upholstery, test the tool on an inconspicuous area first.
2. Collect before vacuuming
Gather the loosened hair into small piles and lift it away. A vacuum is most effective after the fibres have been released; relying on suction alone often leaves fine hair behind. Use a crevice attachment around seat rails, belt anchors and door pockets, taking care not to force the nozzle against trim.
3. Finish the surfaces
Wipe hard surfaces with a clean microfibre cloth suitable for the material. Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s care instructions for leather, coated fabrics and screens. Allow every surface to dry before reinstalling a cover or mat.
